It’s officially summer in the US and I don’t know about you guys, but my summers are always spent at the beach playing mermaids in the ocean. As someone who lives in a coastal town, I’m always looking for the perfect swimsuit and this one piece by LONDRE just might be it!

Besides the fact that it’s super cute, LONDRE really stepped up to the plate with the material of this swimsuit. It’s made out of a material known as chitosante, which is made out of leftover shells from the shellfish industry! Isn’t that incredible?! I didn’t even know you could make clothing out of shellfish. Along with the chitosante, there is also a minimum of six plastic bottles used in each swimsuit, which has allowed for the cleanup of over 100,000 plastic bottles from the beaches of Taiwan. It just keeps getting better! This combination allows the company to avoid the use of a very common material we’ve all heard of: Polyester, which is derived from fossil fuels.

Another benefit of these new materials is that they are non-toxic and chemical-free, meaning ALL water used in the production process is able to be reused, which is a HUGE plus. Removing pollution from the environment AND using less water? Sounds like my cup of tea!

There’s nothing I love to see more than a brand finding new and innovative ways to be sustainable. Yeah, there’s the classic “reduce, reuse, recycle” methods a lot of companies use, but that doesn’t address the problem that the production processes for a lot of clothing materials( and in this situation, swimsuit) require the use of fossil fuels and are harmful for the environment.

LONDRE definitely deserves some praise for pushing against the norms in the name of sustainability and finding a true alternative to polyester.
