Dear Frederick Charles Herzog, III of Mr. Zogs Sex Wax,
The purpose of this message is to urge you to reconsider the ingredients in your surf wax products. Paraffin wax is derived from crude oil, which is not a sustainable ingredient by any means. Oil reserves will soon run out, and by using them up we will further contribute to climate change. In addition, despite being biodegradable, paraffin wax is harmful to the environment once released into the oceans. Your company even mentions this on its website. You acknowledge that you are doing damage and this transparency is admirable. But why don’t you outline initiatives to make your products more sustainable? ‘
The only concession you have made so far is to develop a line of surf wax with cardboard packaging in the Quick Humps Eco Box. This is a step in the right direction though I would recommend extending this type of packaging to everything that you sell. Why not make all your products more sustainable? You cannot stop at cardboard if you really have the environment in mind. Cardboard packaging is beneficial in that it is recyclable but it does not account for the damage caused by using paraffin wax as a main ingredient in your products. A single line of the same wax with different packaging is not sustainable and you haven’t fooled us into thinking it is. It is obvious that Sexwax has lots of room for improvement from a sustainability standpoint and we encourage you to make the necessary changes!
