Hi, I’m Jian Hong! I’m an Environmental Studies B.A. major at UC Santa Barbara. I was born and raised in New York, and the city always had me yearning for more greenery. My growing interest in politics makes me want to pursue a career that combines both my love of the environment with international relations. We must ensure that those who have contributed least to the problem of climate change don’t continue to suffer the most, and promise an equitable transformation of society so marginalized groups don’t become even more vulnerable. We also have to protect wildlife and habitats for their intrinsic value, which requires a fundamental shift in our anthropocentric view of our world. Some green intersections I find particularly fascinating are agriculture, transportation, and transnational efforts to ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.
