Hi, I’m Jose Padilla Diaz! I’m a 4th-year Environmental Studies B.A. major at UC Santa Barbara. I grew up around the Bay Area, in a town called Concord, but since I was young I have always had a passion for the environment and being outdoors. I became interested in Environmental Studies because I witnessed the degradation of my favorite childhood nature “hangout” and experienced the aftermath of California wildfires. It was very frustrating to learn the role of anthropogenic climate change impacts on earth, but it was even more upsetting how much denial and push-back has occurred because corporations are solely capital-driven, which creates a plethora of environmental and social injustices. If we want to shift from an extractive economy to a regenerative one, we must address intersectionalities by having voices heard from an array of perspectives and we must be willing to collaborate so we collectively take action to mitigate climate change and improve global sustainability.
