I think this brand has real sustainable and ethical values that go beyond just their coffee. I felt like there was so much to write about in each section which I believe is a good sign. They have partnered with Vote.org (http://vote.org/) by having a special-edition coffee and mug that both contribute $2 to Vote.org (http://vote.org/) with each purchase. Vote.org (http://vote.org/) utilizes this money to increase voter turnout which is incredibly relevant right now especially. They had a similar campaign with Everytown for Gun Safety to promote common-sense gun laws. They have an extensive list of other organizations that they have contributed to which goes to show how willing this company is to give to others. I appreciate how they went into detail on a number of different aspects of their sustainability and ethics since they gave a sense of transparency.

The draft latte is lactose and gluten free and the milk that is in these lattes are locally sourced with the farm only being 10 miles from their facility in Michigan. They pasteurize and homogenize this raw milk and this milk is from cows that were not treated with rBST or any artificial growth hormones. The lactose enzyme ingredient allows this latte to be lactose free for those who are lactose intolerant, but La Colombe also offers lattes with non-dairy milk like oat milk. The original draft latte has no added sugar, but this triple shot draft latte contains cane sugar. The ingredient label says that there is 12g of sugar. My only issue here is I could not find any specific information on the can materials. In the next portion, I mention other aspects of their packaging, but I do not see any information on whether or not these cans are recyclable, compostable, or biodegradable. I know that they include a rubberized ring on the top of the cans to improve the experience of drinking the latte, but I also wonder what material this is made of and if it is necessary considering the extra waste it can cause.
Their roasted coffee bags are 100% recyclable while also using plant based ink. They have a goal to have 98% biodegradable packaging by 2024. They address safe-labor practices which is an aspect that can be hard to find among various companies. The founders ensure that they are purchasing certified organic coffee that utilizes fair prices to these farmers along with ethical farming practices. The company works with importers with the same values allowing producers to be paid above the fair trade price.
The founders are Tom Carmichael and J.P. Iberti and their mission is to make the world better with coffee. They donated $100,000 to the National Park Foundation to protect these parks while also creating the Haiti Coffee Academy to aid Haiti farmers with the resources to grow the coffee beans. It is clear to me that the founders care far more than just having a successful coffee company. They have also invested in the Kayaza Natural workshop which goes towards livestock, solar panels, and increased healthcare for the farmers.
