Oil paint is most commonly sold in small non-recyclable tubes and is made up of extremely toxic materials. Oil painting normally has to be facilitated either outside or in very well-ventilated rooms due to the toxins it emits. I am a painter myself and know first hand the effects of working with paints and turpentine for extended periods of time. Artists can easily get headaches or feel nauseated from using our materials. This brand is revolutionary! It offers high-quality oil paint without the chemicals or profound environmental impact. Additionally, this company uses recycled and biodegradable materials for their packages and their facility is 100% solar powered. I am so excited to try these products in the future.

Natural Earth Paints are made of pure, natural earth pigments. The paints are sourced from pure clay and mineral earth from the USA. The paints are free of preservatives, heavy toxins, solvents, synthetics, and fillers. They are also free of parabens, phthalates, formaldehyde, additives, petroleum-based dyes, and nanoparticles. The oil paints of this brand are made to be archival and durable. They are completely safe, and non-toxic. The “Complete Eco-friendly Oil Paint Kit” contains ten natural earth and mineral pigments in 2oz packets. The colors included in this kit are Venetian red, orange ochre, yellow ochre, terra verte, ultramarine blue, ultramarine purple, black ochre, burnt sienna, titanium white rutile, and burnt umber. These are colors traditionally included in oil paint kits and offer a beautifully wide spectrum of pigment and hues. Each of these pigments is packaged in biodegradable plastic bags. This kit also includes a 4 oz.jar of refined walnut oil which is used to mix and thicken the paint. A 4 oz. jar of Eco Solve is provided as well, this is a non-toxic and plant-based thinner/brush cleaner. All of these products are wrapped in a 100% post-consumer recycled gift box. I am impressed by the standards this company has set. Not only are they moving away from chemicals in their products but also use biodegradable packaging and their facility is solar-powered.

All products are made in the USA with biodegradable and post-consumer recycled packaging. Some pigments are sourced from Italy and France. The facility makes the products in 100% solar-powered and located in Ashland, Oregon. The ingredients are organic and hand-crafted in small batches. The company uses vegetable-based ink in its printing processes. The company also plants a local tree seed seedling with every order! In this category, I rated it a 2.25 because the company does source materials from Italy and France. They could improve upon the sustainability of the product by sourcing all materials locally.
