In terms of the effectiveness of the product, I would say from personal experience that it is a great product and leaves your hair super soft and silky. I personally don’t get my hair coloured but still use the product to keep my hair healthy and would recommend it to anyone wanting super healthy hair. One thing that I was disappointed to find was that a decent amount of the ingredients in the No. 3 Perfector are environmental toxins or can be human toxicants. My rating is honestly lower than I had anticipated but this is also because I expected more easily accessible information about packaging and whether it’s recyclable.

what it's made of:

1

After looking into all the ingredients that go into the No. 3 Perfector I was very surprised at the number of ingredients that are either human toxicants or possible environmental toxins. Some of these ingredients that are human toxicants include cetyl alcohol (organ toxicity) and phenoxyethanol (linked to effects on the central nervous system) and some that are environmental toxins include cetrimonium chloride and cetearyl alcohol. Whilst these ingredients are something to be aware of, the product is meant for your hair and is not something that you ingest, it can be safe to assume that the product is safe for use. All ingredients that do have some concern connected to them are all safe to use in cosmetics as they are used in small quantities.

how it's made:

1.75

Olaplex does not explicitly state how their products are made which does have an impact on my overall rating of the product, they are open about what they do not include their products and what environmental efforts are made during the production process. The No.3 perfector is vegan, gluten-free, cruelty-free, nut-free, paraben-free, phthalates free, phosphate-free and sulfate-free, meaning that not only is it good for your hair chemically, it is also as safe for the environment as possible. With nothing on the site about whether their packaging is recyclable, I spoke to the customer service team and was informed that their packaging was recyclable and made from recycled ocean plastic.

who makes it:

1.9

Olaplex has been around since 2014 but has really blown up over the past few years. Originally found in salons and used by hairdressers for treating coloured hair, the No 3. perfector has become a go-to product for many, myself included, for salon-like hair care at home. All their products work to fix broken bonds from root to end whether that's due to heat damage or from continuous colouring treatments. They have a wide range of products including shampoo and conditioner, that can be used in conjunction with the Olaplex treatment you receive in the salon. Something that brings down the rating is that there really isn't much information on the website about their sustainability efforts or what their packaging is made of unless you ask the customer support team.
