As a multi-billion dollar industry, the consumerism behind candles has negative environmental consequences through the large-scale production and sourcing of candle ingredients. P.F. Candle Co. is an independent brand that wants to subvert conventional candle-making processes and ethics. With a variety of candle scents that can attract many different consumers, the non-toxic components of P.F. Candle Co.‘s candles are also environmentally appealing. Overall, the environmental efforts made by the company are very promising and are a great contrast to the over-saturation of toxic petroleum-based wax seen in most candles sold.

P.F. Candle Co.‘s Classic Candles are made with 100% domestically produced soy wax and are vegan, cruelty-free, phthalate-free. Apart from soy wax, they use man-made and natural fragrance oils that are paraben-free, cruelty-free, and phthalate-free to create different scents like Amber & Moss and Sandalwood Rose. The candles also utilize cotton-core wicks which are conventionally used to help ignite the fire within the candle. The outside packaging of the candles contains brass lids and jars which are recyclable but can also be repurposed into different things. Compared to conventional candle wax which is composed of paraffin wax made of petroleum, soy wax is a plant-based and renewable alternative that provides a more eco-conscious approach to candles. P.F. Candle Co. has made sure that the internal candle and external packaging are mindful of the planet and the consumer.

All of P.F. Candle Co’s soy wax is sourced in the United States as a method to decrease carbon emissions. Their factory headquarters is in Los Angeles where their team designs, produces, and packages their candles and other products. This makes their labor and supply chain transparent as they have publicized their production processes online. However, it would also be beneficial to include the sourcing of their external packaging components since that is not written anywhere on their website or the actual product.

Candle Co. combines sustainability efforts into household products so that consumers can buy eco-friendly candles at an affordable price. They make candles, diffusers, incense, room sprays, and car fragrances which all exemplify the same environmental mission. There are no explicit social initiatives outlined on their website but their company brand is more focused on the environmental and accessible aspects of manufacturing and marketing candles to consumers. P.F. Candle Co.‘s firm position on environmentalism makes their core message strong and helps with their overall brand image.
